Fair Trade at the Open
Fairtrade comes to the Open Championship. Read all about it.
We are delighted that at this year's 150th Open Championships in St Andrews, The R&A decided that all tea and coffee sold to the public would be Fairtrade. The caterers, Sodexo Prestige, have told us that they sold the following Fairtrade products:
- 17,500 cups of tea,
- 12,500 cups of coffee,
- 800 cups of hot chocolate
- 4000 bars of chocolate
- sundry other snacks.
The R&A has also become a Club which offers Fairtrade beverages to its members and workforce. This has been a major success for the St Andrews Fairtrade Town Campaign and other major sporting events in Scotland may look to emulate this success.
