Apologies

No apologies

1. Matters arising from last minutes

  • St Andrews MerchantsÕ Association web-site and town booklet: a link has been added on their web-site to ours, and publicity for the campaign in the next issue of the booklet is being discussed.
  • Corrections to last minutes: the Byre Theatre were to get one third of any sale arising from Jan NimmoÕs exhibition; P. Lindsay of the Community Council printed the advertising fliers for the Byre event.
  • MR had not contacted Fife Council, but will try to find out if there is an appropriate venue for advertising events within the Council.

2. Fairtrade Fortnight

  • The Byre events. About 56 people had attended the reception, new contacts were made, and though no pictures had been sold Jan Nimmo was pleased with the publicity. It is hoped to post a photograph of the event on our web-site. HF to ask any colleagues who might be interested in looking after our web-site to take this task over.
  • Stall at MorrisonÕs supermarket. This had been very successful, and all available leaflets were handed out.
  • Finders. AS reported that printing costs so far (500 initially) were under £20. Two hundred more had been printed and more can be produced as necessary.
  • Press coverage. The St Andrews Citizen had printed three stories about Fairtrade during the fortnight and it is hoped another will appear (AC to be interviewed); the Dundee Courier also covered the Byre event, and Jan NimmoÕs subsequent Dundee exhibition.
  • Finances. PR reported our current balance is £170.74. AS is to be reimbursed £39.45 for printing and laminating expenses (Finders and certificates). PR to submit a report and receipts to Fife Council regarding their £33 grant from the Community Grants Scheme.
  • Next year. Need 1000 of all leaflets to be handed out; consider distribution of leaflets and free samples in the town centre, with or without a stall in Church Square.

3. Certificates

AC, PR and MR had distributed certificates to most of the cafes and shops in the town, and collected £22 so far in donations from recipients. Many certificates are now on display, and the remainder will be distributed over the next few months. Up-dated information on the receipt forms, plus any other amendments, to be forwarded to AS.

4. Fairtrade Nation booklets

About 800 of these have been given away on MorrisonÕs stall, to churches etc.; AM to give some to the secretary of the Community Council for distribution to the councillors.

5. Ethical Living Fair, StudentsÕ Union, 14 March

AC and MR to set up the stall at 10 am; AM to help in afternoon.

6.Fairtrade Town status

AC had down-loaded the form to apply for renewal of status after one year. After completion by AC, MR and/or PR, two of us plus one councillor are required to sign it, and it has to be submitted to the Fairtrade Foundation, plus copies of press reports etc. Subsequent applications are biannual.

7. Publishing the Finder

AS suggested trying to get the updated Finder published, e.g. in St Andrews in Focus, in the Citizen, or church magazines, possibly in St Andrews Festival week.

8. AOB

HF suggested having cotton Fairtrade bags for sale on stalls where possible.

9. Date of next meeting:
