Previous meeting's minutes

Present

Alice Curteis, Marie and Peter Robinson, Averill Marks, Jim Mason

Apologies

Andrew Smith

Jim Mason and the committee discussed what Fairtrade means for third-world producers, and how the local and national farming economy works; parallels and possible means of collaboration were also discussed

1. Matters arising from last minutes

  • No response had been received from the Lib Dems office re. road signs article and publicity for 30 Nov. MR to contact Courier re. an article and photo around 30 November.
  • MR to contact MerchantsÕ Association re. both website and booklet.
  • Tayside Think now has the ÔFairtrade HotspotÕ article on home page.

2. St Andrews Week events

Three collages had been completed so far and a possible further three are expected. It is hoped that The Citizen will publish an article and photograph of the winning entry and class; photo to be taken at school on Tuesday 28 November. It is hoped to set up the display on Friday 24 November and have the entries judged by Mr G. Murray, Madras College. The St Andrews Day reception at the Burgh Chambers will be attended by AC and AM.

3. Posters for shops etc.

No decision had yet been received about funding from Fife Council, but a donation will be requested from each recipient, as our current funds (c. £37) would barely cover the additional cost of producing the posters. Recently £28 had been paid for the campaign website for a further year.

4. Annual report for Fairtrade Foundation

AC to submit this when the procedure has been clarified.

5. Jan Nimmo 's film and exhibition of woodcuts

It is hoped that this will go ahead in the Byre Theatre from 27 February 2007, for approximately one week. Various payment issues still have to be resolved or confirmed. Our contribution is likely to be production of advertising leaflets (A4), fliers (A5) and posters (A1). MR to apply to Community Council for funding for this and to cover printing costs of an up-dated Finder for Fairtrade Fortnight. (Two boxes of paper from Curtis Fine Paper at £5 each, plus 500 pages @ 3p per page printed: approx. £25.) AC suggested investigating the possibility of including advertising on the leaflets to defray costs.

6. Next meeting

Monday 15 January 7.30 pm at 41 Lawmill Gardens. (later changed to Tuesday 16 January)
