1. Matters arising from last minutes

  • AC passed a receipt to PR for stamps. The accounts for 2005-2006 had been audited and approved by Ian Murray.
  • The Courier had published our article about the St Andrews Fairtrade Hot spot on 25th August.
  • A reply had been received from Fife NHS Board re. the new hospital planned in St Andrews (opening 2010). The possibility of using Fairtrade products there and in other Fife hospitals etc. will be considered.
  • Morrisons have yet to respond to a query re. holding a stall there in Fairtrade Fortnight 2007.
  • AS will use information from our town campaign website for the taysidethink website.
  • Church Square stall on 11 August had been successful, with 500 fliers and free coffee samples being handed out by those helping with rota.
  • AC to speak to Lawhead headteacher re. child protection issues if school children help with supermarket stall

2. Town Sign

The suggested designs from Fife Council were discussed. These are very satisfactory though some doubt was expressed about the shade of blue used as a margin to the three smaller signs; a greener shade might suit the rest of the design better and also match the town Fairtrade logo (though not included on signs). MR to suggest this and ask re. timing of installation. MR to write to Rt Hon Sir Menzies Campbell, MP, re. the official unveiling of the signs, and if needed, prepare a brief.

AC mentioned need to address potential negative attitudes and publicity with regard to new road signs, and will consult Fairtrade Foundation website for possible material. Need to develop strong supportive links with local farmers and other producers was discussed.

3. St Andrews Festival Week

One reply had so far been received from the ten primary schools contacted re. the collage competition. A suitable venue for display of entries was discussed. MR to contact Revd R. Macleod with regard to this. AC had been in touch with Co-operative area committee members and hoped to ask about donation of possible prizes.

4. Certificate for Fairtrade premises

AS to look into the cost of printing A5 size colour certificates using the town Fairtrade logo as a background, and a simple message such as ÔWe supply Fairtrade goodsÕ and ÔWe supply fairly traded goodsÕ. PR/AS to investigate cost of buying a laminater. MR to download application form from Fife Region for a community organisations grant or similar.

5. AOB

  • Request from Hattitrading for a link to their website on ours. AC to check BAFTS accreditation and respond if satisfactory.
  • Co-op Fair Trade day in Kirkcaldy, Sat. 16 September; AC to attend.

9. Next meeting
