1. Matters arising from last minutes

  • article written for St Andrews Citizen was not used; to be amended and sent elsewhere (AC, MR). Further ideas needed for publicity.
  • AC produced 600 copies of headed A4 notepaper at cost of £30.
  • St Andrews Tesco is stocking more Fairtrade items: oranges and Brazil nuts, after a request was submitted to the manager.
  • MR to contact Fife Health Board regarding use of Fairtrade products by staff and in vending machines locally and in new hospital.
  • AS reported on Taysidethink.net website for publicising campaigns.

2. AGM business

PM took the chair while the following elections were conducted: chair: Alice Curteis (PR proposed, AM seconded); vice-chair: Averill Marks (AC proposed, PR seconded); treasurer: Peter Robinson (AC proposed, AM seconded); secretary: Marie Robinson (AS proposed, PR seconded).

AC suggested changing the wording of the constitution regarding committee membership to ÔA member of Fife Council and/or St Andrews Community Council will be invited to attend meetingsÕ. This was unanimously agreed. A student member will be invited but will not be a formal member of the committee.

3. Financial report

PR presented a copy of the accounts. Our current bank balance is £68.56. PR to ask I. Murray to audit the accounts.

4. B&B and hotels project

PosAC and AM had delivered or posted around 70 envelopes with Fairtrade information and samples; postage etc. cost £20. Ten forms had been returned, and three more premises will be added to the list in the directory. One hotel of those contacted may be interested in using Fairtrade products in the future.

5. Town signs

Currently a sign is being designed by Fife Council, and will be sent to local councillors for approval. MR to ask if committee can also see it before production, and to advise them that the Fairtrade Foundation will approve designs. A donation of £100 toward the cost will be made following support from the Community Council.

6. St Andrews Festival Week

It is expected that there will be several possible venues for a Fairtrade stall, but the programme is still being developed. AC reported that two primary schools are keen to hold a poster competition on the theme of Fairtrade during the week. Details to be circulated to primaries with KY16 postcode in late August: Theme Ð A taste of Fairtrade; task Ð to design an A1 sized poster depicting this theme in the form of a collage. The number and variety of Fairtrade packaging materials used in the collage will be taken into account in judging. Entries restricted to one per class, but any number from each school. It is hoped to display the entries in an appropriate venue during the Festival week. Entries will be collected on/ around Fri 10 November.

7. Annual application for Fairtrade status

This will be dealt with in December.

8. Fairtrade Fortnight

MR to contact MorrisonÕs about having a stall in their entrance area on the middle Saturday of the fortnight. Up-dated Finders to be available. A schoolsÕ recipe competition might be organised.
